Write Social Posts with AI That Sound Like You: Compose, Chat and Voice Templates
November 4, 2026 · 6 min read
AI drafts are only useful if they sound like you and fit the platform. PostGP gives you two places to generate posts and a set of voice templates that shape every draft. This guide shows which place to use for what, and how to edit the templates so you spend your time editing, not rewriting.
Compose or Chat: which to use
Compose is a focused editor for one post. Pick a platform, write a one-line brief such as “announce our new pricing, friendly, mention the free trial”, and press Generate. You get a draft in that platform's format, which you can regenerate or edit by hand.
Chat is a conversation. Use it when you are exploring: ask for five angles on a launch, then ask for the best one as an X thread and a LinkedIn post. Drafts appear as editable previews inside the conversation, and you save them to the calendar when you are happy.
| Compose | Chat | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | One post, quickly | Several posts or ideas from one source |
| Starting point | A short brief | A conversation, or pasted source text |
| Output | A draft in the editor | Editable post previews you can save |
| Iterating | Regenerate or edit | Ask for changes in plain language |
Give the AI something to work with
The brief decides the quality more than anything else. A good brief has four parts:
- The point: what the reader should learn or do.
- The proof: a real number, an example, a detail only you would know.
- The audience: who it is for.
- The constraint: length, tone, or a phrase that must appear.
Paste the source material. A changelog, a blog post or call notes give the AI facts to use instead of inventing them.
Teach it your voice with templates
Every platform has its own voice template. Open Templates in the sidebar and you will see five sections for each one, which together describe how your posts should read:
| Section | What to put in it |
|---|---|
| Voice & tone | Who the posts should sound like. |
| Words & patterns to avoid | Phrases and habits that make text sound machine-written. |
| Writing style | Sentence rhythm, how specific to be, and emoji use. |
| Platform rules | Hooks, structure and hashtags for that network. |
| Extra instructions | Brand facts, product names, or your own habits. |
A quick way to improve a template
- Generate three drafts with the default template and note what annoys you: a word, an opening, a closing question.
- Add each annoyance to Words & patterns to avoid, in one short line.
- Add one concrete example of a post you wrote and liked under Extra instructions.
- Generate again. Repeat until the drafts need only light edits.
What the AI can't change
Templates control style, not rules. Character limits, the number of thread parts, media constraints and other platform requirements are enforced separately, so a template can never produce a post that the platform would reject. If you ask for something that doesn't fit, the draft is shortened to fit, and the editor still checks it before you schedule.
Always review before scheduling
Treat every draft as a first version. Check the facts, names and numbers, read the first line as a stranger would, and look at the preview. Then schedule it, or save it as a draft to come back to.
