Schedule Social Media Posts with Claude, Codex or Gemini (MCP Setup)
November 4, 2026 · 7 min read
PostGP runs an MCP server, which lets an AI assistant work inside your account: look at your connected profiles, create posts, attach media from a link, and move things around on the calendar. You tell the assistant what you want in plain language, and PostGP applies the same checks and limits as when you do it by hand.
What you need first
Three things, and none takes more than a few minutes:
- A PostGP account with at least one connected social account.
- An assistant that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP: Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Cursor all do.
- The PostGP MCP address: https://postgp.com/mcp
Add the PostGP server to your assistant
Pick your tool below. The first time it connects, a browser window opens and asks you to sign in to PostGP and approve access. After that you stay connected.
claude mcp add --transport http postgp https://postgp.com/mcp
[mcp_servers.postgp] url = "https://postgp.com/mcp"
{
"mcpServers": {
"postgp": { "httpUrl": "https://postgp.com/mcp" }
}
}{
"mcpServers": {
"postgp": { "url": "https://postgp.com/mcp" }
}
}Claude on the web and in the desktop app: add PostGP as a custom connector under Settings → Connectors, and paste the same address.
What your assistant can do
The assistant gets a focused set of tools. It can only act on your own account, and it cannot see your access tokens.
| Task | What the assistant does |
|---|---|
| See where you can post | Lists your connected accounts and their status. |
| Create a post | Drafts or schedules a post for X, Instagram, LinkedIn or Threads with that platform's own fields. |
| Attach media | Fetches an image, video or PDF from a public https link (up to 50 MB) into your library. |
| Review the calendar | Lists posts in a date range, lists unscheduled drafts, and opens any single post. |
| Change plans | Reschedules a post, moves a scheduled post back to drafts, or retries a failed one. |
| Clean up | Deletes a post that is not currently publishing. |
Prompts that work well
Be specific about the platform, the account if you have several, and the time with a time zone. Here are prompts to start from:
- “Draft an X thread of five posts from this changelog and schedule it for tomorrow at 9:30 am Pacific.”
- “Turn this blog post into one LinkedIn post and one Threads post. Save both as drafts so I can review them.”
- “Look at what I have scheduled next week and tell me which days have nothing planned.”
- “Upload this image and schedule it as an Instagram feed post with a three-line caption and no more than five hashtags.”
- “My 5 pm LinkedIn post failed. Show me why and retry it.”
Ask for drafts first when you are trying a new prompt. Review in the calendar, then ask the assistant to schedule.
Rules the assistant follows
The assistant is not a back door. Every post goes through the same validation as the editor: character limits, media rules and the account's platform. If a post breaks a rule, the assistant gets the error back and can fix it.
One scheduling rule surprises people: PostGP allows at most one post every four hours per user, across all accounts. If your assistant tries to stack three posts at 9 am, it is told to pick other times.
If the connection doesn't work
- Make sure you pasted the published address, not a preview or localhost link. Outside tools can't reach those.
- Remove the server from your assistant and add it again to restart the sign-in window.
- Confirm you are signed in to the right PostGP account in the browser window that opens.
- Ask the assistant to list your accounts. If it can, the connection is fine and the problem is in the prompt.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the assistant have my social media passwords or tokens?
- No. Tokens stay on PostGP's side. The assistant only calls PostGP's tools, and can do only what those tools allow.
- Can the assistant publish a post immediately?
- It creates drafts and scheduled posts. The scheduler publishes at the chosen time, and failed posts can be retried.
- Is MCP only for Claude?
- No. MCP is an open protocol. Any assistant or agent that supports remote MCP servers can connect, including Codex, Gemini CLI and Cursor.
