How to Connect X, Instagram, LinkedIn and Threads to PostGP
November 4, 2026 ยท 6 min read
Before PostGP can publish anything, each social account has to be linked once. You approve access on the platform's own page, never on ours, and you can pull it back at any time. This guide covers what each connection asks for, which account types work, and what to do when a connection stops working.
How connecting works
Open Accounts in PostGP and click Connect next to a platform. You are sent to that platform's official sign-in and consent screen, approve the permissions listed there, and land back in PostGP with the account showing as connected.
PostGP never sees your password. The platform hands us an access token that is limited to the permissions you approved, and we store it where only the publishing service can read it. Your browser and the rest of the app never get it back.
Connect an account only once. A second connection to the same profile is not needed, and all of your scheduled posts pick the account from a list.
What each platform asks you to approve
The permissions are the minimum each platform's official API requires for publishing.
| Platform | Account type that works | Permissions requested |
|---|---|---|
| X | Any X account | Read your profile, post on your behalf, upload media, and stay connected (refresh access). |
| Your personal profile | Your basic profile and permission to share posts as you. | |
| Creator or Business account | Basic profile, publish content, and manage comments. The Facebook route also asks for Page access. | |
| Threads | Any Threads profile | Basic profile and permission to publish. |
Instagram: two ways to connect
Instagram is the only platform with a choice. Connect with Instagram Login is the default and needs no Facebook Page: you sign in on Instagram and approve publishing. Connect via Facebook Page is for accounts that are already managed through a Page and Meta Business Suite.
Pick Instagram Login unless you have a reason to use the Page route. The account has to be a Creator or Business account either way, because Instagram does not offer publishing access for personal accounts.
- No Facebook Page? Follow the dedicated walkthrough: schedule Instagram posts without a Facebook Page.
- Already using a Page for ads or Business Suite? The Facebook Page option keeps everything under one login.
Check that the connection worked
After approving, confirm three things on the Accounts page:
- The account's name and handle appear with its profile picture.
- The account is listed as connected, with no Reconnect button next to it.
- The account shows up in the account picker when you create a new post on the matching platform.
When a connection needs attention
Platforms occasionally invalidate access: you changed your password, revoked the app, or a token reached the end of its life. PostGP renews access automatically where the platform allows it. When it can't, the account shows a Reconnect button on the Accounts page.
Click Reconnect and approve again. Posts that were already scheduled for that account stay in place, and you do not need to rebuild them. If a post could not be published because the connection was invalid, open it and retry once the account is reconnected.
Disconnect an account
Click the disconnect icon next to an account and confirm. The stored access token is deleted immediately and PostGP can no longer post to that profile. Scheduled posts for a disconnected account will not publish, so move or delete them first if you want to keep your calendar clean.
To also remove PostGP from the platform's own list of authorized apps, use the steps in the data deletion guide.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I post to a LinkedIn company Page?
- No. PostGP currently connects personal LinkedIn profiles and publishes as you.
- Can I connect more than one account per platform?
- Yes. Connect each profile separately and choose which one to publish from when you create a post.
- Does PostGP store my password?
- No. You sign in on the platform itself. PostGP only receives a limited access token that you can revoke at any time.
- Why does Instagram say my account isn't eligible?
- Instagram only allows publishing through its API for Creator and Business accounts. Switch your profile to a professional account in the Instagram app and connect again.
